Laurie CARTOON develops an artistic practice centred on memory, perception, and the transformation of images. Her work explores the relationships between reality and fiction, presence and absence, through compositions in which light, colour, and space play an essential role.

Through portraits and imaginary architectures, she creates visual worlds that invite personal interpretation. Her figures, reminiscent of fictional family archives — particularly in the series Portraits de Famille – Rémanences — evoke a reconstructed memory. Her deserted architectural spaces — Architecture du Silence, Solitude Industrielle, and Call Me Back — explore human presence through its absence.

This exploration takes on a spatial dimension with Le Passage (2026), a series of fictional architectures in which perspective, colour, and light guide a gradual journey towards emptiness. Presented as an installation combining printed artworks and video projection at the Church of Saint-Martin in Ury, as part of the European Heritage Days, the project invites viewers to experience movement through space and shifting perspectives.

Trained in haute couture, Laurie CARTOON brings her sensitivity to materials, textures, and composition into a practice combining photography, digital painting, and artificial intelligence. AI serves as a tool for exploration and transformation, allowing her to combine, recompose, or remove visual elements. Each composition then undergoes a personal process of selection, modification, and reinterpretation.

Her current research focuses on translucent plastic membranes, combining drawing, inks, fine painted papers, and layered compositions. This work draws particularly on her observation of the traces and forms created in the landscape by water, wind, and time. These imprints, carrying the memory of the processes that shaped them, are photographed, transformed, and recomposed through her own perspective, informed by her perception, memories, and previous creations. Their manual reinterpretation on the membranes does not aim to reproduce the landscape, but to give it a new visual and material existence. Transparency, empty spaces, cast shadows, and variations in light allow forms to interact and reveal themselves differently according to the viewer’s position.

The signature CART👀N visually incorporates the act of looking into the artist’s name, echoing the themes of observation, perception, and memory that run throughout her artistic practice.
