Laurie CARTOON
Contemporary & Digital Artist
Laurie CARTOON develops a practice centered on memory, presence, and the transformation of images in the age of contemporary technologies. Her work explores how images construct, alter, and extend our perception of reality.
Through portraits and architectural spaces, she creates ambiguous visual environments situated between document and fiction. Her figures, resembling imagined family archives — particularly in the series Portraits de Famille – Rémanences — evoke unstable forms of memory, while her empty architectures — Architecture of Silence, Industrial Silence, Call Me Back — become spaces of mental projection, marked by absence and persistence. This exploration also extends into immersive environments such as Zones of Latency.
Originally trained in Haute Couture, she brings a strong sensitivity to material, light, and composition into a rigorous digital practice combining photography, digital painting, and artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is used as a research and transformation tool, integrated within a controlled creative process. Each image is constructed, reworked, and refined to achieve a balance between formal precision and interpretative openness.
Her work engages with broader questions surrounding contemporary memory, image-making processes, and the tension between reality and reconstruction, in dialogue with contemporary art practices presented in institutions such as the Centre Pompidou or international platforms like the Lumen Prize.
The signature CART👀N visually integrates the gaze into the artist’s name, echoing the notions of observation, perception, and memory that run through her work.
